Renovating a home means rethinking its energy consumption and its relationship with the environment. Let’s look at 5 simple tips for an eco-sustainable renovation.

Today, sustainability is increasingly discussed. The green shift is affecting many aspects of our lives and many productive sectors, particularly construction, especially renovations. Renovating a home means rethinking its energy consumption and its relationship with the environment. Moreover, a truly eco-sustainable renovation allows for significant savings on energy consumption, and more. It also improves our living comfort.

An Eco-Sustainable Home

When designing an eco-sustainable building, everything is planned with a comprehensive vision. Every element is part of a whole, each component has its impact on the entirety. Every aspect must be evaluated in detail, nothing can be left to chance. For this reason, when considering an eco-sustainable renovation, it is essential to consult a specialized architectural firm. Let’s look at 5 simple tips for an eco-sustainable renovation:

1. Give new life to what already exists

When renovating an apartment, not all old elements need to be discarded, disposed of, and replaced. Often, furniture and flooring can have a new life. There are many elements that can be recovered, restored, and reinterpreted. This will not only reduce disposal and renovation costs but also the time required for many tasks.

2. Dispose of waste carefully

Home renovation necessarily involves removing what is no longer needed. In many cases discarding rubble, old sinks, doors, frames, or worn-out appliances is inevitable. However, it is important to ensure that all materials are disposed of correctly, by contacting specialized companies or the offices of your local municipality.

3. Utilize natural ventilation and lighting

Nature is a great ally if we know how to wisely use what it offers. Carefully assess the building’s sun exposure. Glass and windows allow us to create naturally bright environments, significantly reducing the need for electric lighting. Similarly, mirrors can be very helpful, especially if installed near a window or on the opposite side. The shape, height, and position of doors and windows can be used for natural ventilation of buildings.

4. Recycle water

Reducing potable water waste is important both for the environment and for lowering our bills. To this end, studying new water recycling systems and installing appropriate systems can be very useful. The installation of these systems is very simple and proves to be quite effective. Thanks to pipes and tanks, we can collect wastewater from sinks, washing machines, and showers, recovering it for non-potable uses. It will then be filtered and used for toilet flushing, or for washing the car and external house pavements.

5. Always prioritize quality

When renovating a home, some material offers may seem extremely convenient. However, it is necessary to consider this very carefully and always prioritize high-quality materials, even at the cost of higher expenses. High-quality materials ensure reliability and durability over time. Inferior materials will require more frequent renovations, representing a significant waste of resources and money. Often, low-cost materials, besides being more easily perishable, are also the most polluting and difficult to dispose of. It is important to think in terms of making a long-term investment, both for the environment and for achieving actual savings.
