The Furniture Bonus 2022 provides a 50% IRPEF deduction on the purchase price of furniture intended for the living room of a house under renovation. If you are considering renovating an apartment, the Furniture Bonus is an excellent opportunity to rethink the living room decor.

How Does the Furniture Bonus 2022 Work?

The 50% deduction of the Furniture Bonus applies to a maximum spending limit of 10,000 euros for each individual property under renovation. The deduction will then be applied over the next 10 years. For example: by spending 5,000 euros on the purchase of two new sofas, from 2023 to 2032 you can benefit from an annual deduction of 250 euros. The Furniture Bonus is in effect for the entire calendar year 2022, therefore valid for expenses incurred from January 1 to December 31 inclusive.

In detail, the following purchases can be deducted:

  • Armchairs
  • Sofas (including sofa beds)
  • Ottomans
  • Coffee tables
  • Bookcases
  • Rugs
  • Mirrors
  • Lamps

To access the tax deduction the necessary condition is that these furnishings are intended for a property undergoing building renovation. Renovation refers to extraordinary maintenance, restoration, building renovation, reconstruction, or restoration of a property damaged by calamities. Ordinary maintenance interventions such as wall painting or floor replacement are excluded. Furthermore, the deduction is only allowed if the renovation started after January 1, 2021.

The replacement of the boiler, installation or integration of a heat pump air conditioning system, a pellet stove, or systems equipped with heat generators powered by combustible biomass entitles you to the Furniture Bonus.

In the case of the Furniture Bonus, it is not possible to opt for the transfer of credit or for the discount on the invoice.

Other Information to Keep in Mind:

To access the Furniture Bonus 2022, it is important to remember that:

  1. Only sofas and armchairs purchased exclusively after the start of renovation work can be deducted.
  2. It is possible to access the bonus even if renovation and restoration work is carried out in areas other than the one for which the furniture is purchased. For example, it is possible to renovate the kitchen and still receive the bonus for an armchair intended for the living room.
  3. Sofas and armchairs must be new from the factory. The Furniture Bonus cannot be accessed by purchasing second-hand items, even if sold by junk dealers or antique dealers. The deduction also includes transportation and assembly costs.
  4. The Furniture Bonus cannot be used if energy efficiency improvements have been carried out on the building, for which a 65% deduction is provided.
