Eco-friendly Wallpaper, the Solution for a Creative and Eco-Friendly Home

Interior Design and Architecture

Wallpaper is back in fashion and becomes a must for renovating interiors, personalizing the home and its rooms in an eco-sustainable, colorful and original way.

Wallpaper was a cult element of home décor in the Sixties and Seventies. Today vintage motifs, geometric and floral patterns are back in vogue and wallpaper is being reinterpreted in a contemporary key, to give rooms an additional touch of color and personality. Renovating your home can therefore be the ideal opportunity to indulge with wallpapers, focusing on the most modern and ecological innovations of contemporary Interior Design.

Old Wallpapers

Wallpaper in the past was a very widespread functional solution for domestic interior decoration, which however presented significant disadvantages from an eco-sustainability perspective. In industrial wallpaper production processes, mixed materials and polluting chemicals were used. Toxic industrial dyes were also used for printing patterns and very aggressive adhesives for fixing the covering to walls. Today, most old wallpapers are hardly recyclable. The only fate for these, once removed from the wall, remains the incinerator.

The issue is not only environmental, but also concerns our health. When we spend a lot of time in a room, we tend to breathe the substances that are present in the air. When we come into contact with toxic substances related to home furnishings, we often develop allergies, skin irritations, nausea or headaches. Ventilation and heating can increase this discomfort. For this reason it is essential to always choose top-quality furnishing materials. If we have wallpaper that is too dated at home, this could be the right time to replace it.

A New Focus on Sustainability and Well-Being

The world of wallpapers has changed a lot in recent years. Issues such as sustainability and environmental well-being can no longer be underestimated by those involved in Interior Design. On the market today we find ecological wallpapers, free of toxic substances and eco-sustainable. These are distinguished by being made without petroleum derivatives. The use of raw materials from renewable and biodegradable sources such as wood, cellulose, cotton, linen, bamboo and cork is preferred. Obviously, maximum attention is paid to the sustainability of their cultivation. The new wallpapers are also decorated with water-based printing inks free of solvents, using only extra-resistant natural pigments. The fixing of the paper to the walls takes place exclusively with natural and vegan glues. At the time of removal, this type of wallpaper will be completely biodegradable and easy to dispose of. Not only that, there are even wallpapers that absorb harmful emissions, coated with substances that absorb VOCs, i.e. volatile organic compounds, through photocatalysis chemical reactions that are activated on contact with solar radiation. Good wallpaper also has excellent sound-absorbing properties and is of great help in regulating building humidity.

Wallpaper is therefore a very functional furnishing element, as well as being perfect for personalizing an environment in a creative way. An excellent idea is to apply wallpaper only to one wall, or part of it, combining it with painted walls. When it comes to wallpaper, there are many solutions, you just have to indulge yourself.
