Renovating Interiors to Create a Brighter Space

Interior Design and Architecture

A bright home environment is essential for our well-being and for achieving significant energy savings. Let’s explore together how to renovate interiors to create brighter spaces.

Natural light is a fundamental element for the well-being of living beings. Regular exposure to light is crucial for human body health. A bright environment greatly helps our daily activities and positively influences our mood. Furthermore, by properly utilizing natural light, we can significantly reduce the use of artificial lighting, benefiting our finances. This form of energy saving proves to be decisive from an economic perspective as well. When preparing to renovate your home, it is therefore very important to consider how to achieve a brighter environment.

Illuminating with New Structural Solutions

According to legal regulations (Ministerial Decree of July 5, 1975, Art.5 Paragraph 2), the living room, bedrooms, and habitable kitchen of a dwelling must have at least one window that opens to the outside, with an extension equal to at least one-eighth of the floor surface. However, this often isn’t enough.

To achieve a brighter environment, you can opt for highly effective structural solutions. When renovating your home, you can consider removing old walls where possible to create comfortable open space areas. Window light will thus encounter no obstacles and easily reach much larger areas of the home. Some walls can’t be removed? Is maintaining the division of certain spaces important? In some cases, you might consider using transparent dividers with glass doors. This way, you’ll maintain separation between spaces while allowing light to flow freely.

It’s also important to consider updating window frames, choosing those with thinner frames to maximize the glass surface of doors and windows. In some rooms, it might be structurally impossible to install a window, however, you could always consider solar tubes as a solution: light wells that, through a series of reflective ducts, can bring natural light up to 10 meters from their external installation point.

Flooring also proves to be a significant element from this perspective. A winning choice is certainly lighter shades, particularly favoring woods like maple, birch, and pine.

Interior Design Choices to Illuminate Spaces

The right Interior Design choices can make a difference when it comes to making a home brighter. First, it’s important to choose the right wall color, favoring light-colored paints and wallpapers. A winning choice is classic white paint, in all its shades and gradations. Dark colors should be strictly avoided. It’s also advisable to opt for curtains made of light fabrics, always in light colors. These will provide protection and privacy while minimizing the filtering of external light.

It’s essential to avoid filling spaces with dense and imposing furniture. Large shelves and large wardrobes can in many cases become real barriers. It’s better to fix large furniture to the walls, preventing them from hindering the spread of light. In this case too, it’s always best to opt for furniture in light colors.

Mirrors are extremely important allies. They reflect light, implementing its intensity and making the space where they’re placed appear larger. To achieve a significant effect, it’s advisable to position them facing the main natural light sources in the home.

Small adjustments can make big differences. Consulting with an expert architect can be truly enlightening! Contact us to learn more.
